The AK and its modifications are the most widely used small arms in the world and are listed in the Guinness Book of World Records: there are over 100 million AKs in service in 106 countries. Its high combat effectiveness has been demonstrated in the local conflicts of the post-war decades, including the Vietnam War. The reliability and fail-safety of the weapon, due to the whole set of technical solutions adopted in it, as well as to a great extent the high quality of manufacturing, is almost a benchmark for its class. It has been suggested that the AK is the most reliable military weapon since the Mauser 98 rifle, and it is ensured even under the most careless and unskilled care, under the harshest conditions.
