Barrett M82 sniper rifle is a .50 BMG (12.7 × 99 mm NATO) sniper rifle produced by Barrett Firearms, USA. This sniper rifle was designed by American gunsmith Ronnie Barrett. Without proper training or experience in the manufacture of firearms he was able to design and manufacture the first working samples in his garage in 1980. In March 2017, the US President authorized the sale of a batch of Barrett M107A1 rifles along with sniper kits and other related equipment to Ukraine for a total of $41.5 million. This decision was the first sale of ammunition (so-called lethal weapons) by the United States to Ukraine since the start of the Russo-Ukrainian war in 2014.

Barrett M82 is an American high-caliber semi-automatic sniper rifle, manufactured by Barrett Firearms Manufacturing. This rifle operates with rotary bolt. Among soldiers it is known as the "Light Ten". It is recommended for use by military forces and police special forces. The M82 is primarily designed to engage lightly armored vehicles, vehicles, radars and other such targets, not manpower. However, it is actively used in anti-sniper operations. The M82 is used in anti-sniper operations, and special cartridges with armor-piercing and incendiary bullets are produced for this weapon, capable of engaging targets at ranges of over 1.5 km. As recalled by participants in combat operations in which this rifle was used, its most impressive characteristic is the fear it engenders in the enemy. A bullet with a muzzle velocity of 855 m/s - that's almost Mach 3 - kills silently, only a few seconds later a sound can be heard. With a magazine capacity of 10 rounds, this fact means that a small squad can be wiped out before the shots even reach it.
